Okanagan Landing fire model discussed
Okanagan Landing residents have an opportunity to learn about how fire services are provided.
The Okanagan Landing Community Association is hosting a a town hall meeting Wednesday on the Vernon Fire Department’s recent change to its command structure.
“Chief Keith Green has graciously agreed to speak to Landing residents,” said Ron Heuman, with the association.
The Landing was served for decades by the Okanagan Landing Volunteer Firefighters Association. However, the city ended the contract Jan. 31 and moved towards a model that sees the Landing hall administered out of the downtown hall.
There was considerable debate over the city’s decision and many Landing firefighters and residents protested the move.
Heuman hopes the debate will not flare up again.
“This meeting is to inform residents of the current fire services structure and not rehash any previous arrangements prior to Feb. 1,” he said.
The town hall meeting will be held at Paddlewheel Park Community Hall Wednesday at 7 p.m.
