Premier flies under the media radar during Vernon visit

B.C.'s premier slipped into Vernon Wednesday without the media or public knowing in advance.

Christy Clark was in town for a couple of hours to meet with some local businesses but the media was not notified of her presence and no announcements were made.

"It was very informal. It wasn't a media event," said Eric Foster, Vernon-Monashee MLA, who says he asked Clark to travel to Vernon because she was in Penticton and Kelowna that day.

"She just came to chat with people."

Among those she met with were representatives from the Vernon New Car Dealers Association, Kal Tire, Predator Ridge, Silver Star Mountain Resort and Tolko Industries.

"She wanted to touch base with these folks about their concerns," said Foster.

But it appears there was also some time to increase the profile of Clark and the Liberal Party.

"She did a little main streeting and she went into Subway to make sandwiches," said Foster.

Foster says Clark will be back in Vernon during the campaign leading up to the May provincial election.
