Police seek wheelchair-bound suspect for assault of pregnant woman
Transit Police are searching for a wheelchair-bound man suspected of assaulting a pregnant woman at the Metrotown SkyTrain station last month.
On Feb. 20 at about 4:10 p.m. two young women pushing their babies in strollers entered the platform-level elevator at the station.
A man in an electric wheelchair entered the elevator, allegedly running over the feet of one of the women. They argued and the woman told him she was calling police and took a photo of him with her phone, say Transit Police.
The argument continued when the elevator reached street level, escalating into an exchange of slaps and punches. Before the man left the area he allegedly struck the woman numerous times in the head and face.
The women reported the incident to a SkyTrain attendant who contacted Transit Police and called an ambulance. As the woman was seven months pregnant, she was taken to hospital for treatment of numerous cuts, bruises and scratches to her face, hands and leg. She was released from hospital later that same evening.
The suspect is described as an aboriginal man, 25 to 35 years old, with black hair, a moustache, goatee and brown eyes. He was wearing glasses and was confined to a wheelchair.
