Esquimalt gets federal funding for Admirals Road upgrades
Esquimalt is getting a $2.8-million boost from the federal government's gas tax fund to improve Admirals Road, and it wants resident input on the design.
The upgrades will take place between Maplebank Road and Lyall Street with the addition of bike lanes, a two-way left turn lane, median islands plus street lighting and sidewalk upgrades.
Township crews will also use the opportunity to install separate manhole access to stormwater and sewage systems, according to a statement released Friday.
“Admirals Road is a regional commuter route used by the Canadian Forces base personnel, shipyard employees and flow-through traffic in both directions," said Mayor Barb Desjardins, adding the funding will cover 100 per cent of the necessary upgrades.
The federal gas tax fund allots $2 billion annually to municipal infrastructure projects across Canada.
