Cause of Greater Vernon recycling fire will never be known
The investigation into a massive fire at the Greater Vernon landfill is over.
Insurance investigators wrapped up their review Wednesday of the March 1 blaze that destroyed most of the recycling facility.
"They are unable to determine a cause," said Dale Danallanko, recycling and disposal facilities operations manager with the Regional District of North Okanagan.
"The damage is so extensive they can't determine the cause."
The Vernon Fire Department has also closed its investigation and says the cause is unknown.
RDNO is now working with its insurance provider on compensation for the damage, and considering whether the facility will be rebuilt.
