Hospital rally planned for Wednesday
A public rally is planned for Wednesday to build support for the proposed $300-million Penticton hospital expansion project.
The rally is scheduled for 11 a.m. on the lawn of the First Baptist Church at the corner of Carmi Avenue and Government Street, across from Penticton Regional Hospital.
Details of the event are posted on the website created by the Penticton Medical Staff Society, which represents about 120 physicians who work at the hospital.
The post encourages people attending the rally to dress in black and bring bandages, crutches, wheelchairs and canes. Attendees are also asked to make signs bearing suggested slogans like, “Build Tower Now,” or, “We’ve waited long enough.”
The medical society is calling on the B.C. government to commit to funding its $160-million share of a new ambulatory care tower at PRH. The balance of the cost would be covered by local taxpayers and the hospital foundation.
