Police have now identified the charred body they found on the weekend and are trying to determine the motive and person responsible for the homicide.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) is now saying the remains are that of 29-year-old Amritpal Saran of Delta.

He was known to police, but had no gang associations, investigators say.

His burned remains were found near 121 Street and Colebrook Road on Sunday, at just after noon.

The cause and motive for the homicide have not yet been determined by police.

The discovery was just two blocks from where the body of 26-six-year old Jaskaran Singh Sandhu was found on Jan. 28.

"Just over twenty-four hours into this investigation, IHIT investigators and the Surrey RCMP are beginning the task of tracing the last days and hours of Mr. Saran's life in an effort to determine the motive and who is responsible for his death." IHIT's Cpl. Adam MacIntosh said in a release Monday.

Anyone who was in the area of 121 Street and Colebrook Road on Sunday or anyone who has information regarding this homicide is being asked to contact the IHIT tipline by calling 1-877-551-IHIT(4448) or by email at

It was Surrey's eighth homicide, marking a violent start of the year for a city that has averaged about 13 murders per year over the last decade.
