UPDATE: Police re-open Queensborough Bridge

New Westminster police reopened the Queensborough Bridge shortly after noon today after closing it this morning "out of an abundance of caution."

Staff Sgt. Paul Hyland said the department isn't willing to release any details about why it was closed because if it turns out to be false they don't want to give it any undue attention. He did, however, say it was not because of an accident, a police incident or a possible suicidal jumper. "The public is not at risk," Hyland said.

The department's major crime unit is looking into the case and if there are similar incidents they will investigate.

On Monday, three courtrooms at the New Westminster courthouse were shut down for an hour after "a non-specific threat" was telephoned in that morning. After sheriffs checked it out, however, they determined there was no danger and the court procedures resumed.
