View Royal looks at intersection
View Royal plans to make changes at the intersection of Island Highway and Admirals Road, with work to happen at the same time as the replacement of the Craigflower Bridge.
The intersection has been the cause of many complaints and concerns over the years, says a municipal staff report, and has a collision rate significantly higher than the provincial average.
A consultant for the project is recommending a number of changes, including lengthening pedestrian walk times, improving signage, widening the traffic island and adding a new traffic pole with lane use signs and amber flashers.
View Royal town council has approved the project, pending the final cost of the bridge replacement.
The project is estimated to cost a total of $159,000, with a potential contribution of about $31,000 coming from ICBC.
In order to do the work in 2013 the town is looking to include the costs in this year’s budget.
