A teacher died suddenly at Twins Rivers elementary school in Castlegar yesterday.

According to a statement from School District 20, Brian Rigby died suddenly and unexpectedly. He was a Grade 4/5 teacher who had worked in the district since the mid-1990s.

"In addition to our grief over the loss of this member of our community, we are sensitive to the fact that such an event has an impact on our staff and students," said the statement signed by superintendent of schools Greg Luterbach.

The district has implemented its Critical Incident Response plan which allows Twin Rivers staff and students an opportunity to talk about their thoughts and feelings with trained professional staff.

Twin Rivers teaches Grades 3 to 7 and has a student population of 370.
