Nelson’s winter magic praised in Edmonton Journal
Nelson and Whitewater have again landed a lengthy travel feature in one of Canada's largest daily newspapers.
Earlier this week, travel writer D. Grant Black penned a 1,000-word feature for the Edmonton Journal entitled "A cosy corner in BC's Powder Triangle: Historic Nelson brims with authentic charm."
"Hype aside, Whitewater is worth the trip, and since it’s more than eight hours by road from a major city, it’s not an overcrowded weekend resort," Black writes. "Yet those searching for the steep and deep will gladly take any mode of transportation to reach these freshes."
Leading into the section of the feature on the city itself, Black writes: "Nelson, a.k.a. 'The Queen City,' was a silver-mining town first settled in the 1880s. Now it’s populated with a colourful mix of the newly arrived turned-on crowd, the entrepreneurial tuned-in folks and the hippie dropouts."
With a population of 812,201, Edmonton is Canada's fifth largest city. The daily circulation of the Edmonton Journal is 100,000.
