Car crashes into city bus during snow storm

A car and a city bus collided in Lake Country Wednesday during the lunch hour.

At 12:45 p.m., a grey Ford Taurus and transit bus collided on Hwy 97 near Crystal Waters Road after the car tried to pass the bus and slipped.

"The roads were wet, slushy and covered with a layer of snow at the time of the collision," said Cpl. Tanya Carroll in a statement released Thursday. "The Taurus was attempting to overtake the bus northbound in a curve when it was observed swerving, losing control before striking the side of the bus."

After colliding with the bus, the vehicle then crossed over the median and landed in the southbound ditch.

None of the 20-28 passengers on the bus were injured, though the jaws of life were used to extract the 80-year-old woman in the passenger seat from the car. She sustained some injuries and was taken to Kelowna General Hospital by ambulance, as was the 60-year-old male driver who also sustained minor injuries.

Neither occupant of the Taurus were wearing a seat belt, and the vehicle had all-season tires that were in poor condition.
