Police say home invasion was targeted, not random
Kamloops Mounties believe a home invasion in North Kamloops in the early-morning hours of Wednesday, Jan. 23, was a targeted, not random, event.
Police say four masked suspects carrying sharp-edged weapons burst into a home in the 1000-block of Kemano Street just after 1 a.m. and stole several items from the house, in which four adults — two men aged 26 and 36, and two women aged 18 and 20 — were staying.
During the altercation inside the residence, a mask worn by a female suspect came off, while a male occupant of the home was injured after being punched. He was treated at Royal Inland Hospital and released.
Investigators believe bear spray was also used during the incident.
The suspects fled in a black car.
RCMP Staff Sgt. Grant Learned said Mounties are confident that at least some of the suspects are known to the victims and that "the incident stems from a previous disagreement between known individuals."
Mounties are expected to release more information during an afternoon press conference today (Jan. 23).
