Bear killed on freeway

A bear died after a vehicle traveling east on Highway 1 near the Whatcom Road exit struck the black bruin about 2:30 a.m. on Wednesday.
The animal managed to stagger away from the scene of the accident, but died in a ditch near Castle Fun Park.
The driver was not injured, but the impact caused extensive damage to the vehicle, according to Abbotsford Police Sgt. Paul Briggs.
