An extra-busy Sunday for RCMP
Police are still looking for the culprit(s) who threw a rock through the front door and stole items from Marquis Jewels and Gifts in Qualicum Beach on Sunday morning.
Oceanside RCMP say the items stolen included watches and other jewels located in the front counter. It is believed that the break and entry occurred at approximately 2:00 a.m. Sunday.
The investigation is ongoing and the Oceanside RCMP welcome any information that could help solve this crime. Call the Oceanside RCMP (250-248-6111) or provide a report anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
• Later Sunday morning, the Oceanside RCMP, together with the RCMP Emergency Response Team, executed a warrant on a property located on Grafton Road in Errington.
A 32-year-old Errington man was arrested on the property without incident. Police say the court-approved search of the buildings on the property resulted in the seizure of several firearms, a significant amount of marijuana and stolen property.
The man is currently in custody and was scheduled to appear in Nanaimo Provincial Court on Monday on drug and weapons related charges.
• On Sunday night, the B.C. Ambulance Service, RCMP Central Island Traffic Service and the Oceanside RCMP were called to an off-road collision in Nanoose Bay. Three Nanaimo men were operating ATVs (quads) on logging roads in Nanoose Bay, when one of the men lost control and drove off an embankment.
The man suffered an injury to his back and needed to be taken by ambulance to Nanaimo General Hospital for treatment. Police say all three men were found to be intoxicated by alcohol and the RCMP conducted an impaired driving investigation. The two uninjured men were both issued 90-day driving prohibitions as a result of the investigation and all the ATVs were impounded for a period of 30 days.
Oceanside RCMP say this incident serves a reminder as to the dangers of operating equipment while consuming intoxicants. Police say impaired driving laws are not solely for people operating cars on public roads — they apply to all motorized vehicles and vessels in any area, including private property. — NEWS Staff
