North Okanagan directors escalate pressure for meat processing
North Okanagan politicians are demanding action from Victoria.
Regional District of North Okanagan directors unanimously voted Wednesday to call on the provincial government to initiate D and E meat processing licenses.
"We were told it would be resolved before Christmas and it hasn't," said director Mike Macnabb.
"Everyone is looking at it but nobody is doing anything. It's a very simple process (for the government) to say yes or no."
RDNO wants D and E meat inspection licences so on-farm slaughtering can occur.
The number of local producers has gone from 1,200 to 300 since the regulations came into force in 2007.
