Port Moody kicks off 100 years with a splash

Hundreds of brave souls donned crazy costumes and bathing suits to take a dip in Burrard Inlet on Tuesday for Port Moody's annual Penguin Plunge.

The event was held as part of the city's kick off to its centennial celebrations.

Among those who ran into the frigid waters — and quickly out — were Port Moody Mayor Mike Clay, Coquitlam Mayor Richard Stewart and Greg Moore, mayor of Port Coquitlam, which is also marking its 100th year in 2013.

On Friday, PoCo will launch its milestone anniversary with a free public skate and on-ice entertainment from the Timebenders, at the Port Coquitlam recreation complex. Visit www.portcoquitlam.ca/100.
