Great support for family New Year’s Eve event

Community businesses and organizations continue to step up to help keep the annual New Year’s Eve event at Strathcona Gardens a free, fun, family event.

Campbell River’s Daybreak Rotary Club most recently helped out – with a contribution to fund children’s entertainers: Campbell River Animal Parties, Jim Chisholm and face painters.

Other sponsors include McDonald’s, Superstore, Thrifty’s, Save On Foods and Quality Foods, who will all contribute free snacks for the families in attendance.

The Family New Year’s Eve event is one of the most popular events over the holiday season with hundreds of families attending each year.

Thanks to community support, the event has been able to grow with the community’s interest. In addition to swimming, skating and pond hockey, new activities include face painting and hair feathering, and roving fitness instructors to get people moving throughout the night. Plus, this year’s event will incorporate the Chinese zodiac’s year of the snake, with interactive shows featuring snakes, reptiles and other animals.

“We are thrilled with the amount of support we have gotten from community businesses and organizations,” states Kevin Elmore, recreation and culture programmer. “It helps us provide an amazing night of family entertainment free of charge.”

The Family New Year’s Eve celebration takes place at Strathcona Gardens from 5 to 9 p.m.
