Woman pushing stroller in crosswalk almost hit by car
Abbotsford Police have obtained video that shows a woman who was pushing a stroller and walking with two young children narrowly missed being hit by a car while in a crosswalk on Monday.
The woman was only a few feet behind a 64-year-old man who was struck by the vehicle at Hillcrest Avenue and Parkview Street at about 2:30 p.m. The man was thrown about 50 feet and was taken to hospital with a broken leg and suspected head injuries.
Const. Ian MacDonald said video obtained from a nearby home shows the man walking north in the crosswalk when he was struck by a westbound Volkswagen Jetta driven by a 73-year-old woman.
MacDonald said several witnesses came to the man's aid, but the woman with the young children did not appear to remain on the scene. As well, there is no record of her having spoken to police.
MacDonald said it is likely the woman quickly left the scene due to the trauma it would have caused the kids. But police would like to talk to her both to obtain a witness statement and to find out whether any of them require follow-up support.
"It would have been a pretty traumatic incident to witness," MacDonald said.
The woman, or anyone who might know who she is, is asked to call the Abbotsford Police Department at 604-859-5225.
