Health wait times ranked by Fraser Institute

B.C. patients on average wait 17 weeks after visiting a doctor before they are seen by a specialist and actually treated, according to a national survey conducted by the Fraser Institute.

That was the third lowest of provinces in Canada, after Ontario and Quebec.

Just over seven weeks of the delay to treatment in B.C. was the initial wait between the GP and the specialist, an improvement from 9.7 weeks in the Fraser Institute's 2011 survey.

B.C. patients waited an average four weeks for CT scans and ultrasounds – slightly longer than the national average.

And the wait of 12 weeks for an MRI scan was much longer than the national average of 8.4 weeks, although it's an improvement from 16 weeks in the previous two years.
