Vehicles targeted by thieves in Lake Cowichan

A rash of incidents of vehicles targeted by thieves were reported to Lake Cowichan RCMP on back-to-back days.

Police responded to a complaint of someone entering a vehicle parked in the Lakeview Avenue area Saturday.

A suspect was apparently interrupted by the barking of the car owner's dog. Nothing was taken from the vehicle.

A police dog was called to the scene but police could not locate the suspect.

Sunday, police responded to several complaints of someone entering vehicles parked in the areas of Arbutus Street, Nitinat Avenue and Somenos Street.

An undisclosed number of items was taken from the vehicles.

"RCMP would like to remind people to lock their vehicles and ensure that valuables are kept out of sight,'' noted Lake Cowichan RCMP Cpl. Larry Olson.

Anyone with information on these incidents is asked to contact Lake Cowichan RCMP at 250-749-6668 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
