The occupants of the cars in a triple collision last weekend are now all in stable condition.

On Saturday, Nov. 24 at about 11:30 a.m., a car stalled on the Alex Fraser Bridge, and then a second car slammed into the back of it.

Both drivers were out of their cars for a short period, then got back in, when a taxi carrying a passenger smashed into the rear car.

One person was initially in critical condition,  and has now been stabilized.

The accident underlines road safety procedures after an accident, police say.

Cpl. Robert McDonald of the RCMP’s Lower Mainland Traffic Services said people shouldn’t try to get out of their cars after an accident unless it’s completely safe to do so.

Those conditions are extremely rare, such as if the car is right beside a sidewalk and the occupants can climb out the passenger side onto the sidewalk.

Any other time, McDonald said, drivers should stay in their vehicle with seatbelts on and call 911.

If on the highway, get over to the curb lane and out of traffic, he said.

The investigation into the accident is continuing, and Mounties haven’t determined whether or not charges will be forthcoming.
