Police action in Oak Bay rouses neighbourhood

In an incident between 2 and 3 a.m. Monday morning, a severely inebriated man tracked his ex-girlfriend to an Oak Bay home, just across the Foul Bay Road border of the municipality.

When he arrived at the home belonging to his ex-girlfriend's sister, he demanded that his ex give him their two-month-old daughter. When she refused, he pushed his way into the home in an attempt to take the child.

The man left the home without the child when police were called.

The Oak Bay Police, with the help of the Saanich canine unit, managed to track and arrest the 23-year-old man a short distance from the house.

Police have recommended charges of trespass by night, break and enter, and criminal harassment against the suspect.

No one was injured in the incident.
