Cheque cashing scam interrupted in the Nass Valley
The Lisims/Nass Valley RCMP want to warn citizens of a cheque cashing scam that has made its way to the Nisga'a village of Laxgalts'ap.
Police warn residents to be very wary of anyone contacting them by phone, e-mail or letter wanting to provide you with a cheque then requesting that those funds be transferred into another bank account.
The cheques sent in this type of scam are of “Non-Sufficient Funds” and can result in severe repercussions should anyone attempt to deposit them in to an account.
It is never a good practice to provide anyone with your personal or banking information over the phone or the internet.
Typically these types of scams target the elderly or other unsuspecting people, so please use caution and spread to word to your friends and family.
