Dianna Holden got a strong dose of goodwill while she was at Abbotsford Regional Hospital on Monday.

Holden says a perfect stranger gave her money when she and her two daughters had no way to get themselves home in the wee hours of the night.

Holden was transported by ambulance for a medical complaint with her kids to Abbotsford Regional Hospital Sunday night.

While in the waiting room, Holden briefly chatted with a woman in her 40s who was suffering from a badly sprained ankle.

At one point, Holden told her kids, six-year-old Ciarra and Hayleigh, 8, that she was going to have to find a way to get them all home to Aldergrove as she had forgotten her wallet.

Holden told her girls the hospital would probably help arrange to get them home.

She figures the woman must have overheard the conversation.

Later, as Holden was being attended to, a nurse walked up and handed her $80.

“A lady in the waiting room wanted you to have this,” said the nurse.

“I was amazed,” said Holden.

“This woman didn’t know me from a hole in the ground. Eighty dollars is a lot of money to give to a complete stranger.”

Holden asked the nurse to try to give the good Samaritan the cash back. Holden also provided her phone number hoping the woman would call so she could thank her.

But it seems she had already left.

In the end, Holden used the cash for a taxi ride home.

The ride was much appreciated as she and the kids left the hospital after 4 a.m., said Holden.

In honour of her rescuer, Holden “blessed” the cabbie with an extra big tip.

Holden said she hopes the woman has her number and will call.

“I hope she phones me because I want to thank her, pay her back and tell her she’s got an amazing heart.”

“I’ve never had anyone be so kind.

“I told my kids, if we can’t pay her back, we’ll pay it forward.”
