Authors to speak about tar sands

Award winning Canadian authors Ian McAllister and Andrew Nikiforuk will speak in Burnaby Nov. 26, 7 p.m., at the Shadbolt Centre for the Arts to warn about threats to B.C.’s environment posed by Canada’s tar sands oil industry. Dubbed “A Story With Two Ends,” the talk by Nikiforuk and McAllister will trace tar sands oil production from Alberta along proposed oil pipelines to the B.C. coastline and the heart of the Great Bear Rainforest. They say Enbridge’s Northern Gateway project is the biggest threat with plans to ship tar sands oil to Asia via new pipelines and a tanker port in Kitimat.
