More than 1,500 young goblins, ghouls and ghosts – treat bags in hand – made their way through Semiahmoo Shopping Centre on Halloween night.

And not only did the event give the costumed youngsters the chance to trick-or-treat in a warm, safe environment, the night also raised $3,600 for the Surrey Firefighters Charitable Society.

Trick-or-treating was done by donation – $2 was suggested – and a handful of local sponsors also chipped in to raise the money for the firefighters.

"We had a huge turnout, and it was great to give back to the firefighters' charity, because they're such a huge part of our community," said Jeri Cox, marketing director for Semiahmoo Shopping Centre.

"It was a great event."

The event was a joint effort between the shopping centre, RCMP Community Police, the Peace Arch/White Rock Rotary and the Surrey Firefighters.
