Three young Burnaby actors will be showing off their musical theatre chops in the stage production of Disney’s High School Musical 2 at Centennial Theatre in North Vancouver Nov. 3 to 22.

Angela King and Amanda Testini are both members of the female ensemble, while Lucas Testini is part of the male ensemble.

The show, produced by URP, is based on the 2007 movie of the same name. It centres around the East High Wildcats and their summer vacation antics working at the Lava Springs Country Club.

Showtimes are 7:30 p.m. with 2 p.m. matinees on Saturdays, Sundays and Nov. 11. Tickets are $32 adults, $28 students and seniors, $24 children under 12, and area available at 604-984-4484 or 604-980-7942. More info: www.urp.ca.

Winter spectacular at the Massey

Massey Theatre is looking for talented performers for a live, multi-disciplinary community theatre production, Massey Theatre’s Winter Spectacular which runs Dec. 16 to 19.

A comedic and touching story of voyage and return, the Spectacular will celebrate the strength of the human spirit. The play journeys through the beauty and the beasts found in West Coast winters and in the ways we come together to survive and thrive in the darkest month of the year.

Numerous roles are up for grabs. Auditions are Oct. 13 and 15 from 7 to 9 p.m. Candidates must be available on both dates. For more information, and to book an audition, info@masseytheatre.com or call 604-517-5900 ext. 111.

Preference will be given to New Westminster residents.

A time to share some stories

Encouraging families to share stories about their internment experiences is the aim of an upcoming workshop at the Japanese Canadian National Museum (6688 Southoaks Crescent, at Kingsway and Sperling) Saturday, Oct. 17, 2 to 4 p.m.

While many elders in Japanese-Canadian families have shared stories of their internment during the Second World War, many have not. Meanwhile, younger generations have not known how best to broach the subject.

The workshop, facilitated by Emiko Kordyback and Leslie Komori, will be an intergenerational dialogue about the war years where adult children and grandchildren can ask questions and parents and grandparents may choose to share their histories.

Participants will also have a chance to interact with the Lemon Creek Map Project, currently on display in the museum. Participation is limited to 15 people. Cost is $10 per person, no charge for seniors. To register or for information, call 604-777-7000 ext.109.
