What is in a moment? The flicker of an eye, the click of a camera as a child plays, as birds, insects and animals investigate their world, as we focus on the lively interaction of all around us in the North Okanagan environment.

Okanagan Moments is the theme of a photo contest sponsored by Grannies à Gogo: the Vernon-South Africa Connection. Amateurs and professionals are invited to enter as many photos as they wish that capture the essence of a North Okanagan moment.

The professional photographer judge of this contest (who will remain a secret until the winners are announced) says, “The theme could include a variety of ideas from area events to special moments with friends to capturing someone biting into the juiciest fruit they’ve ever tasted.”

The judge looks for a great image that holds your attention by telling a story, one that is well-composed, and cropped to the specifications of the contest, with clarity and vibrancy. Look around at the moment, and see the photographic opportunities. Show us your vision. Dare to challenge your creativity!

Thirteen winning photos will be featured in an 11-by-17 planning calendar for 2015. Funds raised from calendar sales and the $5 entrance fee of each photo support AIDS-bereaved gogos (grandmothers) in South Africa. Prizes will be awarded for the top winning photos.

For entry forms and details see www.granniesagogo.com. Entry forms are also available at Sladen Moore Accounting, 3005-35th Ave., across from the RCMP station. Contest deadline is Oct. 1.

Susan Fenner is publicity rep for Grannies à Gogo: the Vernon - South Africa Connection.
