There is a great winery hop nestled equidistance between Vernon and Kelowna, near Lake Country. Anchoring this quick run is Arrowleaf Cellars. Hosting a great view of the lake, an expansive lawn perfect for picnic lunches, and friendly and knowledgeable owners, Arrowleaf Cellars is the perfect mid-day stop on your afternoon wine tour.

Arrowleaf Cellars is a family run business, owned and operated by Joe and Margrit Zuppiger, and their son Manuel. 1986 saw the Zuppigers relocate to Canada, and in 1996 they purchased the former Suncrest Vineyard winery, while Manuel returned to Switzerland to master the art of winemaking. The family synergy is apparent, with each member of the family pitching in and helping to create one of the Premier brands in the area.

New for 2010 is the First Crush line. Replacing the White and Red Feather labels, the First Crush bottles feature a striking new design. Rounding out the Arrowleaf portfolio is an eclectic mix of varietals such as : Pinot Gris, Snow Tropics Vidal, SSLH Vidal, Merlot Pinot Noir, Zweigelt, Chardonnay, and Gewürztraminer. The best quality fruit of each vintage ends up in the premium Solstice wines: Solstice Gewürztraminer, Solstice Pinot Noir and Solstice Reserve. Reds are aged in French Oak and the whites in stainless steel. Both the Pinot Gris and the Pinot Noir are excellent, and the Solstice Gewürztraminer is cleaning up on the awards this year, most recently claiming Judges Choice at this year’s Wine Access International Value Wine awards, along with the Pinot Gris.

Be sure to pack a picnic lunch with you, as the view from the picnic area is astounding!  Several tables await you and offer a wonderful panoramic view of the lake and surrounding area. There are plans in the future to offer baskets, cheese and crackers etc, but for the moment, bundle up your fave snacks, drop in and grab a bottle to sip, munch and enjoy the view.

The wine shop is open daily from 10:30am to 5:30pm between May 1 and Nov 15.  Tastings cost $2 and the charge will be refunded with the purchase of any bottle of wine.   Directions to the winery: From Kelowna, follow HWY 97 north to Winfield in Lake Country.  Turn left on Berry Rd, right on Okanagan Centre Rd and left on Camp Rd.  Follow Camp Rd to the winery.
