      <description>Amy Woodland Elementary School had a well attended birthday celebration on Wednesday, October 1, recognizing the school's 50th anniversary. All the current students were in attendance with many of them dressed in 1950's attire similar to that worn back when the school first opened in 1958.</description>

      <description>Members of the BC Arts Council (BCAC) paid a visit to Cranbrook last Friday to meet with the local arts council and other members of the community and tour some of the cultural land marks, including the St. Eugene Resort and the Canadian Museum of Rail Travel. This was the first time members of the provincial council visited Cranbrook in an official capacity. "Having seen what we've seen today, I'm sure we'll be back," said BCAC Chair Don Shumka at a reception at the Royal Alexandra Hall on Friday.</description>
