Trail hosts successful highland games

The Trail Caledonian Society (TCS) had highland dancers hopping, skipping and jumping at the Cominco Gym on Oct. 24.

Just under 50 dancers came to town from across B.C, Alberta and Washington to compete in the annual competition.

“It was a huge success,” said Christine Piva, with the society who helped organize the event.

“A big thank you to our fantastic volunteers, sponsors, competitors and spectators. Our local dancers excelled once again this year.”

Beginner dancers, seasoned veterans and even a few seniors came out to participate in traditional dancing, Irish jigs and sword dancing among others.

Local dancers strutted their stuff on the hardwood and deserve to be mentioned for their talent.

For beginners, Laura Foyle in the eight and under class took third in flora, lilt and swords and fourth in the highland fling.

In the 10 and under category Ali D’Odorico placed second in swords, Michaela Foyle took third in swords and second in highland fling in 12 and under.

Jenny Crakes took first in Flora, swords and Highland Fling in the beginner 16 and under class.

For the novice dancers 10 and under, Anna Cooper took first in flora, triubhas, swords and highland fling receiving the aggregate trophy.

Emma Proflili captured second in highland fling, second in swords and third in both flora and triubhas.

Emily Ashton ranked third in the highland fling.

In the novice 13 and under class, Leslie Murdoch took the aggregate trophy with first in flora, swords and second in Triubhas while Emma Foyle left with third in triubhas, swords and highland fling.

Rounding out the intermediate 11 and under class, Seirra Matheson performed with grace taking first place in lilt, flora, Barracks Johnnie and highland laddie.
