Ex-Smokies coach picked

Trail’s Mike Mondin was named assistant coach for the Canadian National Sledge Hockey Team for the 2008 to 2010 season, including the 2010 Olympics.
Jeff Snyder from Elmira, Ont., was named head coach and Shawn Frydbern from Concord, Ont., was named as assistant coach as well.
Mondin is no stranger to the Trail area and was an assistant coach for the Trail Smoke Eaters from 1996 to 1999 and again from 2000 to 2006.
Mondin has also been involved in the B.C. Hockey’s high performance program.
At the Canada Winter Games in 1999, he represented team B.C. as an assistant coach.
He was head coach for Team B.C. at the Canada Winter Games in 2003.
The final selection camp for the upcoming season for the National Sledge Hockey Team is being held at Milton, Ont., from September 4 to 7. Sledge hockey is the Paralympic version of ice hockey and has been included in the Paralympics since 1994.
