Teck to increase zinc production

Teck has announced its Trail facility will return to its full refined zinc production of 25,000 tonnes a month for the first time since December 2008 due to strengthened customer demand.
The increase in operation from 20,000 tonnes a month will start September 1st and will be achieved by Teck taking delivery of its full contracted tonnage of Red Dog concentrate.
“We’re very pleased with the decision,” says Richard Deane, manager of energy and public relations with Teck.
“It’s good news for the company, the community and the employees.”
Deane said the increase in demand will mean the hiring of 10-15 new employees at the Trail operation.
Orders for specific products by a large number of steel mill customers in Q3 and Q4 are 44 per cent above the order rate for the first half of the year.
Teck also announced that 2009 coal year delivery prices would be consistent with the previously announced benchmark settlement price of US $128 per tonne.
It is expected that clean coal production will be approximately 12 million tones for the second half of the 2009 calendar year with the added benefit of higher pre-stripping rates during the first half of the year.
