The Trail Italian Choir (Coro Italiano) is sending a song out to recruit new members, specifically men, for their traditional Italian singing group before the lack of voices forces and end to the music.
The choir has been around for more than 50 years in the city and the traditional Italian roots are evident in the songs, theory and sound.
As the choir is getting older, members are dropping out and the importance of maintaining the strong Italian music roots in town is now at risk of leaving with the members.
“We would like to maintain the Italian musical culture here, our town is so full of Italians, but if we want to continue we need more people, specifically men,” said Carlo Bianco, the current conductor of the choir.
“No experience is necessary, you don’t have to be Italian, but we recommend you are capable of carrying a tune somewhat.”
Trail is the second-largest gathering of Italiano’s in Canada and the choir celebrates the heritage with traditional songs sung in Italian and even some in Latin.
Soprano, alto, tenor and bass are the four tone areas that a voice would fall into. Soprano is the highest female voice, alto is a lower female voice, tenor is a high male voice and bass is the lowest male voice.
The Italian Choir is in need of men, specifically tenor males.
The choir is a good way to unwind, meet people and learn a little about traditional Italian culture.
The choir rehearses Tuesday nights at 7:30 p.m. at the Columbo Lodge in Trail, anyone interested in singing their praises can show up and get in on the action.
