For Darryl Taylor and Catherine Manna, Trail skated into their hearts and they are hoping some of that hockey mojo will register with judges choosing the new Hockey Night in Canada theme song.
“Well, I heard that they were going to probably drop the song altogether and find another song. Within a week of that they had the contest ready to go,” said Taylor.
“Darryl first heard about it and he said to me, ‘Hey, they are looking for a new song for Hockey Night in Canada. We should enter it,’ ” said Manna.
Currently they have one joint song entered into the contest and are working on a second song.
Taylor entered the competition as a solo artist as well.
“I thought, ‘Wow that is a great way to seek out new talent in Canada.’ Even though they may not make the hockey theme there is some fresh new talent out there that will be picked up I just know it,” said Manna.
The pair started working together in 2002 in Kelowna writing and producing musical projects. In 2004, they moved to Trail and their work started morphing into other areas besides music.
Manna and Taylor started Columbia Heights Studios and produced the documentary For the Love Of The Game: A Century of Hockey In Trail, B.C. Taylor found he enjoyed working in video and is currently the videographer for the Trail Smoke Eaters.
Working on the video they had a chance to meet and become friends with Norm Lenardon.
Manna was raised in Toronto. Coming to Trail for her was wonderful and she enjoys living in this area.
Taylor grew up in Rossland and when Kelowna started to lose its charm, decided it was time to come back to the Kootenays.
