Resident puts out challenge
Dear Editor,
An open letter to the person who broke off a Linden tree at the south side of the Overwaitea store: I am trying to imagine what drove you to do that? Do you hate trees so much that you would snap off trees that get in your way? Did you think the bare brick wall looks better without the trees in front of it? Do you have to take out your anger at the world on small trees? Do you have to do it to prove your manhood? Did somebody offer you a challenge, tell you that you wouldn’t and couldn’t do it so you did it?
Please don’t tell me it was an accident. I might believe that, if you hadn’t broken out the top of one of the other Lindens that are left. That was so obviously deliberately done that I have to think the whole thing was done on purpose.
But I have another challenge for you: Come forward, admit that you did break off that tree and put up the money and work to replace it. And if you were a witness to this great feat of strength, ask your “friend” to rise to my challenge. Maybe while he is at it, you can help him.
