Eating to feel great
Now its not my place to tell any junk food lover what to eat. After all, I am a former junk foodaholic myself and I know how great it feels sometimes to sit down and eat an entire bag of Miss Vickie’s kettle chips, while munching on a chocolate bar, all while washing it down with a litre of Pepsi....excuse me I am actually drooling on my keyboard.
I also know that after eating this way for years, things start to change and suddenly it might not be as fulfilling to mow down on your favourite snacks, not to mention the weight gain, sleeplessness and overall feeling of, for lack of a better word..icky!
So, I just though I might share with you some great ways to eat healthier, control cravings and to feel great about doing it!
First, let me mention that the whole thing about drinking a lot of water? That is true. Even if you don’t really like it, have to get someone to hold you down, or better yet flavour your water with things like Crystal Light, try to get those eight glasses in a day. Not only will it keep you feeling fuller, it is good for your skin, good at flushing out toxins and just plain good for you!
Try to eat breakfast. There are a variety of ways to do this, from eating some fruit, to having eggs and toast or my favourite (and great in the cold weather) a bowl of oatmeal. Eating breakfast before you gulp down three cups of coffee and forget to eat until 2 p.m., will make you feel great and keep you from gorging yourself later on in the day.
Snacking. I am a big time grazer and there is nothing wrong with that, but learning to snack in a healthy way can really set you on the path to a healthier happier you. Cut up some veggies before you go to bed (or while you’re preparing dinner that night), throw some crackers and cheese (not too much!) in a baggie and take it with you to work the next day. Then when you have that craving for that bag of chips or doughnut, munch on your carrot sticks and you will find that this will become routine and you won’t crave those chips as much. It does take time, I won’t lie about that!
Portions. Keep your portions smaller, chew slowly and really enjoy what you are eating. You’ll find that you can feel full with less...I swear it really works.
These are just some of the things that I suggest if you are trying to kick your bad eating habits. Coming from the Queen of Junk Food Junkies, I can assure you that these little things really do work and it makes the occasional (small) bag of chips (you can certainly have a bag every now and then!) taste so much better!
