A week filled with Canadian icons and pride
There are some things that are truly Canadian. When you see them, picture them or think of them you just can’t help but think about Canada and have a little bit of swelling of Canadian pride.
I’m not talking about those stereotypes that we all know and love to hate. I mean some of the things that truly make you proud to be a Canadian.
This week we were treated to the RCMP Musical Ride. Mounties dressed in their Red Serge and performing on beautifully trained horses was truly a sight that will not soon be forgotten by those that attended the event.
I was proud to see the range of spectators that came to see the show. Everyone from young children to those still young at heart came to see what is truly an iconic Canadian event.
Later in the week I was treated to yet another Canadian image - the Northern Lights. While most of Golden was fast asleep in their beds, and where I probably should have been, I was out on my back porch completely spellbound as the lights danced across the sky between the two mountain ranges.
For me, that was my first time ever seeing the lights, and it is something that I have always wanted to witness. I have grown up seeing photos and paintings portraying the colours dancing across the sky, especially at souvenir shops. It is something that so many travellers to Canada hope to see, and it was pretty neat to be able to watch it in my pajamas from my back porch.
Now I am finishing my week by travelling to our nation’s capital. It is my chance to fill myself up with a little bit more Canadian pride, and visit some more icons of our country. Everyday I get to walk by the Canadian flag outside the post office, but it is going to be so much better to see it flying on Parliament Hill.
