Drive safely in bad weather
Trans Canada East Traffic Services is an RCMP Unit with an Administrative Offices based out of Golden, with members situated within the communities of Revelstoke, Sicamous, Salmon Arm and Golden.
Slippery road conditions are upon us with the months of November and December historically seeing an increase in the number of fatal and serious injury collisions. Temperatures of +1 and -1 are prime conditions for black ice, especially in the early morning and evening hours.
Trans Canada East Traffic Services would like to take this opportunity to remind motorists that the posted speed limit is the maximum allowable speed during ideal driving conditions. Those who fail to reduce their speed during inclement road and weather conditions will be ticketed for speeding, relative to the conditions, $167 fine. If the weather and road conditions are poor, slow down. As stated, the speed limit is the maximum allowable speed during ideal road and weather conditions. If it's snowing and the road is icy, you should be travelling below the posted speed limit. There will be a zero tolerance for those who put themselves and others at risk by failing to reduce their speed during times of inclement weather and poor road conditions.
South East District RCMP attends, on average, 20 to 25 fatal collisions during the months of November and December. Aggressive driving, driving too fast for road conditions is one of the main contributing factors. A Provincial Campaign has commenced and all traffic members will be targeting these casual factors.
Please drive safely and arrive safe.
