It was an evening of sublime music and impassioned poetry at Bacchus Books last week. On October 30, Caleb Moss and father, Jeff began and concluded their world tour showcasing their newly released CD, The Woodshop Sessions. The CD is a compilation of Moss’s spoken word poetry put to the cello compositions of his father. Performing to a full house, the evening began with Jeff Moss playing a formerly lost piece from Johanne Sebastian Bach. Then, to the audience’s delight, just as the piece was finished, Caleb Moss entered through the front door dressed in a suit, ready to engage the audience in his performance.

In a unique twist to the evening, each seat had a pad of paper placed on it that was only explained when Moss took the stage.

He explained to the audience that he wanted them to write down any words, phrases or feelings that really struck them throughout the evening while listening to his poetry.

“Then I would like to use what you have written to write another piece, sort of four degrees of poetry. Me saying words to you, you writing words down, me reading the words and then writing a piece using what you have written,” he said smiling.

The idea was very well received as people were busily jotting down ideas half way through the first number.

The two were electric throughout their performance, even causing the audience to let out a huge collective breath after one piece that was particularly charged with emotion.

Audience members said that this was another great cultural event for Golden.
