A fundraiser for a local man saw many community members come out to show their support at the Golden Library last week.

The fundraiser, held on August 28, was organized to help Kelly Charlton, a 24-year-old Goldenite who suffered a complete spinal cord injury in July.

Kelly Charlton’s mother, Kathy Charlton, is the head community librarian at the Golden Library.

Sue Larose, family friend, said that because the Charlton family is so well known and loved among library staff, library patrons and other community members, she decided to hold a tea party at the library to give people the opportunity to donate what they could to help the Charlton family in their time of need.

Larose said that the Money raised at last week’s fundraiser will go directly toward a wheelchair for Kelly Charlton.

“Kelly is doing incredibly well,” said Larose, adding, “He is currently at the Calgary Foothills Hospital for his rehabilitation. He’s got such a great attitude and the whole family is doing amazingly well.”

Because this is such a difficult situation, Larose said that she, Sandra Beckett and Du Seward wanted to do all they could to help.

“We have also opened an account at the Credit Union in Kelly’s [Charlton’s] name in case anyone wants to donate and there will also be a drop box at the Golden Library for donations to the family. Financial help will go toward the things that Kelly will need in his rehabilitation including job retraining.”

Local musicians also came out to provide entertainment and support the Charlton family. Performing throughout the afternoon were, Jane Fearing and Suzie Raudaschl, Jeff Moss and Judy Malone and Will and Dorothy Wardwell.
