A new bike shop has opened in town, and although the space is small, there does not seem to be a limit to the repairs that owner Jon Simpson can do.

The shop opened in the old Wenman building across from Town Hall on May 22. The interesting thing about the location is that Wenman used to do repairs on bikes for kids out of the shop back in the 1930s, explained Simpson.

Working with bikes has been a passion of Simpson's for a long time. Many will remember him working on bikes up at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort.

"I started when I was 15 working in a bike shop, and I've been doing it pretty much ever since," said Simpson. "I have been fixing bikes for a long time and wanted to provide Golden with another option."

The new shop offers bike enthusiasts, and those with just a mild interest in the sport, the chance to purchase gear, bike parts and new bikes. Simpson also does repairs on bikes.

"I service all types of bikes, from tricycles, to downhill, to cross-country, to strollers," said Simpson. "I am starting to get into custom suspension. The focus has been on mountain biking, but we do all types."

Simpson is part of the Golden Cycling Club, and is promoting it at Derailed and selling memberships.

"The plan is to help see the Cycling Club grow in Golden," explained Simpson.

To get his dream for the store started, Simpson took advantage of the program, Community Futures.

"It's a self employment program," said Simpson. "It helps you to start a business through things like training, networking and classes."
