About Us
The Golden Star is one of the Black Press Community Newspaper Group's newest members, but its heritage dates back to 1891 when it was founded as The Golden Era by an Australian mining engineer.
It acquired new owners, and its current name, 12 years later. For more than 60 years, the Star was operated by the Fish family. It joined Black Press in May of 2003.
Golden is a town of 5,000 people, with another approximately 4,500 in the immediate rural area. It is nestled in the Columbia Valley between the Rocky Mountains to the east and the Purcell/Selkirk Range to the west.
Owing to its naturally spectacular location, Golden has become an adventure sport mecca, attracting outdoor enthusiasts from around the province and country, be they skiers, snowboarders, mountain bikers, paragliders or whitewater rafters.
With the recent development of Kicking Horse Mountain Resort (KHMR), Golden has begun to step out onto the world stage.
Golden is a diversified town in both economy and residents, proud of its industrial past while it looks forward to a bright future.
