Revelstoke Hockeyville 2010 Committee.
In 2009, the community of Terrace British Columbia beat out over 7000 communities across Canada to become Kraft Hockeyville. As a result of their win they hosted an NHL Pre-Season Game in their arena, CBC’s Hockey Night in Canada visited their community and they received $100,000 from Kraft to upgrade their arena! The remaining Top 4 communities also received $25,000 from Kraft for their respective arena upgrades.
On November 2, 2009, Revelstoke will join the 2010 edition of Kraft Hockeyville and challenge an estimated 8000 communities from coast to coast.
The Revelstoke Hockeyville 2010 Committee, consisting of Gary McLaughlin, David Rooney, Alan Chell, Eric Scarcella, Brenda Diebert, Jamie Perreault, and Dennis Berarducci have taken on this monumental task and received the support from City Council, The Rotary Club of Revelstoke, Revelstoke Secondary School, and the over 950 people who signed up to the Revelstoke Hockeyville Facebook page. This committee will create a 500-word community profile of the City of Revelstoke, as well as enter three photos showcasing our hockey pride and love of the community and submit it to Kraft Hockeyville.
Once accepted, our community will have a website where people in our community will be required to post their own personal story which will help Revelstoke advance in the contest. This is where the support from the community will be needed most.
The committee has also received the overwhelming support of The Revelstoke Current, Revelstoke Times Review and EZ Rock, all of which have kept the City of Revelstoke updated.
The Revelstoke Times Review have provided the Revelstoke Hockeyville 2010 Committee a bi-weekly column which will keep the community of Revelstoke updated as to the upcoming events and how they can get involved.
As a personal note I want to personally thank the estimated over 200 people who massed at the Revelstoke Forum on November 1st to show the rest of Canada that the City of Revelstoke deserves to be Hockeyville. I also want to thank everyone who took the time to write me, and tell the other members of the committee that they have their support. We can’t do this without you Revelstoke.
If you wish to get involved, join the Revelstoke Hockeyville 2010 Facebook group, or contact a member of the committee. Let’s show Canada that there is no other community that deserves to be called Kraft Hockeyville 2010 then the City of Revelstoke!
Gary McLaughlin, Chairman
Revelstoke Hockeyville 2010 Committee.
