MLA to host seniors tea in Revelstoke
Seniors’ issues are still at the top of the agenda in Revelstoke, says Columbia River–Revelstoke MLA Norm Macdonald.
“My office continues to receive numerous calls from seniors in Revelstoke asking for my assistance,” said Macdonald. “Issues range from the level of care in residential care facilities to the increasing cost of living for people on fixed incomes.
“It is important for seniors to realize that they can ask for help. My office is able to provide assistance with issues relating to health care, Pharmacare, housing, residential care and assisted living to name a few.”
Macdonald will be hosting a Seniors Tea on Tuesday, Nov. 10 between 1–3 p.m. at the Revelstoke Community Centre. Seniors and their families will have the opportunity to talk to Macdonald and his staff. “I hope that seniors and their families will take this opportunity to let me know what is on their minds,” said Macdonald.
BC Housing begins demolition of the south wing of Moberly Manor this week. Clearview Grinding Ltd. of Surrey, B.C., will conduct the work, which is expected to last four to six weeks.
A Revelstoke city official said that the residents will not be displaced during the construction, and that there will be as little disruption as possible to the residents.
BC Housing will explore locating new low-cost seniors rental housing on the location, although a decision on the final location is not expected until the new year.
Fire at RMR
Revelstoke Fire Rescue services doused a small fire in under 15 minutes at the new Nelsen Lodge Building 3, which is under construction.
The fire was reported just before 1 p.m. on Oct. 28. “Fire Crews quickly located and extinguished the fire, located on the second floor, in a closet of the condo under construction,” said Fire Chief Rob Girard. “The fire was isolated to that space and crews did a great job in actioning the fire,” he said.
Girard said the fire remains under investigation, but that an acetylene torch appears to be a factor. Girard asked contractors and do-it-yourselfers to be careful when using the torches, saying the use of these types of devices often cause of residential and commercial fires.
