Stars spotted at local café

Revelstoke played host to two Hollywood faces last week, when they were recognized eating at the Main Street Cafe by owner Shelley Gibson.

“We’re all still on cloud nine here,” said Gibson with excitement in her voice.

According to Gibson, actors Scarlett Johansson and Ryan Reynolds, who are currently engaged, stopped at the cafe on July 11 to eat breakfast. Employees Emily Geidt and Ashton Wotherspoon also confirmed the identity of the couple.

“They were very nice,” said Gibson of the stars, who she described as wearing hats and sunglasses and being very dressed down. She said that the pair told her, after she approached them to say that she was honoured to have them in her restaurant, that they were just passing through the area while touring.

The staff told The Times Review that Johansson and Reynolds immediately asked for their cheque when the restaurant started to get busier, although neither had finished their meal.

“Before they left they wanted two peanut butters for their dog,” laughed Gibson while describing the encounter.

The couple ate oatmeal for breakfast, which Reynolds followed with a feta and bacon omelet, while Johansson finished with two poached eggs. They reportedly spent a lot of their low-key breakfast on their cell-phones, text messaging.

Johansson recently appeared in The Other Boleyn Girl and The Nanny Diaries. Reynolds, who was born in Vancouver, has contributed to numerous films and is set to appear in the upcoming movie, X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

This is not the first time that the Main Street Cafe has served famous customers. The cafe has also been dazzled by the likes of Daniel Powter and Martin Gélinas.
