Parents and kids looking to have fun while learning about the history of trains and railways should check out Children’s Day at the Revelstoke Railway Museum on Saturday, August 22.
The event, which will stretch from 10 am to 3 pm, will feature special activities for kids along with the museum’s exhibits.
“We have a lot of stuff happening that day,” said Barb Eby, events coordinator at the museum.
“We have lots of crafts going on,” said Eby. “Just like last year, we’ll have craft tables out in Rotary Park and we have eight or nine different crafts for the kids to do.”
“We’ll be making lots of different handmade crafts,” said Eby, who highlighted kite-making as a popular activity.
“We have lots of crafts going on. Just like last year, we’ll have craft tables out in Rotary Park and we have eight or nine different crafts for the kids to do,” said Eby.
Along with crafts, the museum has brought in inflatable ‘bouncers’ for kids to play in and on.
“We also have BC Hydro coming: they’ll have a tent,” said Eby. “They have lots of hands-on stuff for kids to do and touch.”
Eby said that the museum also hopes to have its miniature engine ready for kids to ride on.
“We hope to have our little engine running,” said Eby. “We’re really working on it ... and if it’s running we hope to give the kids a ride.”
If this year’s Children’s Day is anything like last year’s, both parents and kids should come away pleased.
“[Last year] was great,” said Eby. “We had about one hundred kids and everybody had a great time.”
The event will cost $3 for kids 6 and under, $4 for children 7 to 12, and $8 for parents. There will be a concession at the event along with a BBQ.
Eby said she encourages families to come out and enjoy the museum: “It’s a great family event.”
