New Revelstoke film debut
Scene from the film The Burning Question. Fire & Vegetation Specialist, Gregg Walker stands above the Grizzly Ridge Fire. Parks Canada staff used fire to fight fire during the wet 2008 season to create a two square kilometre fire guard to protect the Trans-Canada and Canadian Pacific Railway Corridor from future catastrophic fire while regenerating fire-dependent white-bark pine habitat.

Among many of the processes that contribute to the health of forests in Mount Revelstoke and Glacier national parks, periodic fire is one of them. The fact that fire is both a destructive force to people and a benefit to many forest ecosystems is a challenging equation to balance. When should fire be put out, lit, or allowed to burn naturally? This is the burning question. The Fire Management staff from Mount Revelstoke and Glacier national parks have teamed up with FD Productions to create a passionate, enthusiastic and engaging 32-minute film, documenting the story of how they successfully managed a fire during the summer of 2008.
Parks Canada will be screening the film in Revelstoke this fall, with a tentative date in mid-October.
