There’s plenty of activities for Revelstoke seniors

Good morning Revelstoke.

George Hannah, president of the Revelstoke Senior Citizens Association, tells me he gets a lot of comments that people miss the Seniors column that I used to write for The Times Review. I enjoyed writing those articles, but due to various conditions at the Seniors Centre, it was best that I step aside. However, by popular request, George has now asked me to write on behalf of the centre again.

I should tell you that I am a member of the Revelstoke Senior Citizens Association, but I would like you to also know that I am the chairperson of the Shuswap Regional Council of Seniors Association Branches that are part of the Senior Citizens Association of B.C.

As well, I am on the board of directors for the Senior Citizens Association of B.C. The Revelstoke Seniors Association is Branch #83 of the B.C. Seniors Association..

I also serve as Director for Zone 8 of the B.C.Seniors Games Society, and as such, I am one of 12 Directors on the board of directors for that Society. Zone 8 encompasses the territory from Revelstoke to Kamloops and Logan Lake in the South, to Barrier, Little Fort and Lilloet at the North end.

My point is that I would like to keep you informed about activities available to Revelstoke seniors beyond just those activities at the Revelstoke Seniors Centre.

The Seniors Centre is in its quiet mode for July and August but many activities will resume in September.Mr Hannah advises that the Centre is available as a resource in the event of a catastrophic disaster in the Revelstoke area. The kitchen and facilities would be used to help out in such an event.

We not only have fun with jam sessions, but also entertain the seniors at the Extended Care Cottages and at Moberley Manor. That’s important to those people, that someone cares enough to spend a couple of hours a week to entertain them. Anyone interested in playing music, please contact Donna at 250-837-3454.

The B.C. Seniors Games will be held in Prince George Sept. 10 to 13. Registrations are done for this year.

There are 278 participants from Zone 8 with at least eight of those coming from Revelstoke. I will tell you more about the Games in future articles. We expect about 3,500 participants from across BC. Competition,

Camaraderie, and most of all, fun is the order of the day.

HUMOUR:

The husband eyed his wife over the dinner table with puzzled suspicion. “That’s a beautiful necklace you’re wearing, dear.”

“Yes, isn’t it darling?” replied the wife. “I found it on the back seat of your car.”

Til next time.
